Christmas Monster Cookies

Day 15 of 25 Days of Christmas My Urban Oven Style!

Another cookie recipe for you! You know I really doubted my abilities to come up with new Christmas cookie ideas after doing my 25 Days of Cookie back in 2011.  But I surprise myself every time I create something new.

This recipe was born from this bright blue recipe car in my files that I was once given to me from my uncle, Jay. I think he gave it to me 15 years or more ago.  He really loved the Monster Cookies that his farmer friends wife made.  Since I have always loved to bake he asked her for the recipe to give to me. His real intention was to get me to make the cookies for him.

I have never made those cookies for him.

Christmas Monster Cookies

This past Thanksgiving he asked me to when I was going to make him Monster Cookies.  Man, he doesn’t forget anything in 15 years.

I pulled out the recipe, thinking about him, the other night. I remembered instantly why I had never made them.

The recipe called for 1 lb of butter, 2 lbs of brown sugar, 2 lbs of white sugar, 2 lbs of peanut butter, a dozen eggs, 18 cups of oatmeal, 1 lb of M&Ms, 1 lb of Chocolate chips, vanilla, corn syrup, and baking soda.

I seriously don’t think I have the arm strength to mix a recipe with 15 lbs of ingredients. Let alone a bowl big enough. This woman the recipe came from really knows how to make a recipe! True farmers wife if you ask me. Pretty sure she was feeding her whole family, and all the farm hands with this recipe. For a MONTH.

True Monster Cookie recipe for sure.

Christmas Monster Cookies

So in true recipe experimenting fashion, I decided to tackle this recipe, but on a much smaller scale. And since it is Christmas, I had to use Christmas themed Chocolate Chips.  These can always be made with regular chocolate chips and M&Ms. But that is no fun this time of year.

Another fun fact about these cookies I realized is that they have no flour in them. Which with the rest of the ingredient list, makes them Gluten Free. Double score on this recipe.

I will be making another batch of these and wrapping them up for my uncle this Christmas. Just my version, not hers. I hope he likes loves them.
