HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEWEY!

My fantastically energetic, crazy,  lazy, over the top, jumpy, loving puppy turned 1 on March 3rd!

Or so we said was his birthday…

We rescued Mr. Dewey and the day we brought him home they estimated he was 6 months old. From that day we counted 6 months, and well, that landed us on February 31st. Since there is no 31st in February, Dewey’s Birthday is MARCH 3rd!

In honor of his birthday I made him a doggy cake! I did some research into recipes to make a dog and human friendly cake.  I landed on making a hybrid of several, and created my “CPB2 Doggy Cake”- Carrots, Peanut Butter and Banana Cake.

I tried the cake along with my 4 legged birthday boy, but everyone else was skittish at the thought of a cake edible for dogs and humans.  Let’s just say even if the recipe calls for all pet and human friendly ingredients, it might not be appetizing to everyone.  It tasted like a unsweetened banana bread, which isn’t all that bad!

For his birthday, Dewey also had a doggy play date with his new friend Chewie. They both loved the cake! No crumb was left behind…  (BELOW: Dewey licking the floor clean around his bowl!)

I can’t believe that this little guy has been in my life for 6 months already!!

I love this little guy so much. He has added so much energy to my life, and he is the most loving, big baby ever. I can’t wait to get home from work everyday to see his smiling face and wagging tail.  He just bursts with love when we walk in the door every night.

Oh did I mention, he is so dang CUTE! Cause he really is 🙂

CPB2 Doggy Cake

yields 1- 9 inch round cake

  • 2 Mashed Bananas
  • 1/4 cup Peanut Butter
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1 3/4 cup all-purpose or whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  1. Combine bananas, peanut butter, carrots, honey, oil and egg into a large mixing bowl. Using an electric mixer, combine ingredients.
  2. Add in flour and soda, and mix until fully incorporated.
  3. Grease and flour one 9 inch round baking pan. Pour ingredients into pan, and level
  4. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 25 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool.

Frosting:  I mixed up a “frosting” with 1 mashed banana, 2 tbsp honey, and 1/4 cup flour. I then spread it over the top of the cake and decorated with Cheerios. You can use many dog friendly foods to decorate your cake – Cheerios, chopped hotdogs, peanut butter, sliced banana or carrots.
