Happy Father’s Day!

Father's Day

Happy Father’s Day to My Dad!

Happy Father’s Day my Grandpa, my Step-Dad, my Brother-in-Law, my Uncles, my Cousins, my Friends and all the Great Fathers out there!!

Every year I stumble around the mall, Home Depot, Menard’s and Fleet Farm looking for a gift for my dad for Father’s Day. And each year I end up buying him clothes or a tool that he ends up saying he already has.  Or I call him and ask, “Hey Dad- what do you want this year?” and he responds with “A trailer.”  Of course he would tell me something practical or anywhere in my budget.

I really don’t get it, how can one person be so difficult to buy for? A person that has everything they want already….

Don’t my Dad and I look so much alike?  Yes- I fully understand that he is my Father and I should look like him. But we really do, you can’t mistake that I am his daughter.

Love this photo from my cousin’s wedding last fall too <3

Back to my gift dilemma…. This year, not wanting to repeat the pain of shopping for my Dad, I took a different approach. First, the question that came to mind was “What does my dad love the most in the world. Other than his 2 daughters?”

Answer:

Peanut Butter!

My decision to ensure his present had Peanut Butter, was only solidified after a recent conversation with my Dad.

On the phone the other night my dad went into this rant about how they went to a wedding and there were chocolates on the table that my little sister- 2 1/2 years-old mind you- devoured. Leaving a trail of chocolate slobber in her wake.  My dad being a non chocolate eater, doesn’t seem to understand the obsession females have with chocolate.  I tried to explain to him that my sister’s first encounter with chocolate was from an Oreo at 2 months of age, by his hand.  What does he expect, a girl to not love chocolate when she is given it at such an early age?

Then he proceeded to say that never happened.

A picture is worth 1,000 words….

The conversation continued with the fact that he also started her obsession with Reese’s Pieces. He defended himself by saying they fit nicely in your hand without melting all over, like chocolate.

Boys. They just don’t get it.  A girl needs her chocolate.

He will defend Peanut Butter to the last stand.

However, this man did teach me and my sister to love Peanut Butter almost as much as he does.

For Father’s Day, the gift I landed on? Peanut Butter Cookies!

There were a few years where I didn’t make my dad any cookies at all, because he teased me so bad for a batch of cookies I made when I was roughly 15. You see, being the wonderful daughter that I am, I decided to make my dad a batch of his favorite cookies.  Let just say they were slightly over down.  Which left them hard and dark brown in color.

What my grandfather would call, “Dunking Cookies”.

My dad did not let that cookie incident  down, still to this day he tells people I make pretty good “Molasses Cookies”.  Very funny, yes my cookies looked like molasses… but I was 15!

A girl can make a mistake can’t she?

I went years not making cookies for my Dad because of this joke.

Then one year, when my ego was feeling less bruised, I made him cookies again.

I received a photo text message a few days later with the caption: “Help, send more cookies!”

REDEMPTION!

My Dad works out-of-town so I won’t be able to see him today, but I will be making cookies for him!   Spilling the beans  on your present Dad, but they will be in the mail tomorrow morning 🙂
