Spring Wreath & Clearance Shopping Fail

I know Spring offically started weeks ago, but I swear Mother Nature did not get the memo. It is cold in Minnesota still. Down and dirty cold!

I can’t count the number of times people have said, “Do you remember this time last year, it was in the 70’s!”  I have been guilty of it too. Last Spring felt like Spring, but this year, Spring is playing an huge trick on us. I swear she is sitting back just laugh at us.  Summer will be here before we know it, without even a day of Spring to show for it.  Bla!

In the spirit of this non-exhistant season, I decide to make a wreath.  Since I moved in with The Boy last summer, I have been trying to liven up our condo door each season with a fun wreath. To this point I have purchased each one of them. This time around I was inspired to make my own with a trip to Michael’s.  Side note on my trip to Michael’s, totally disappointing. I popped in after brunch with my girlfriends, only because there was a large sign that said “Huge Clearance Sale”.  Totally a marketing trick to get me into the store. Once in, I found they were totally bluffing, and there was very little actually on clearance! For those of you who know me really well, you know I love a good sale. Guilty coupon book carrier right here.

:: Please note, as I wrote that I just stuck both my hands up and pointed both my thumbs back at my chest ::

I am so lame…

After entering this so called clearance sale, I was inspired by a roll of teal colored burlap.  As the burlap was the first thing in my cart- yes, I was that excited about this clearance sale that I grabbed a cart at the craft store and not a basket- I needed to look for some more items to actually come up with a project.

While shopping, I remembered a nice wicker wreath I had picked up at the thrift store a few months prior, and then set to finding other items to jazz up my wreath.

When I started I had no idea what the wreath was going turn out like. I just started piecing it all together and going back to my craft bins for more pieces.

I started thinking I needed a way to hang the wreath, so I drummed up a piece of pink ribbon.

Next, I needed to find a use for the burlap.  I thought about weaving it around the wreath or wrapping it, but then realized there wasn’t enough burlap.  On to plan B- which I acutally think was much better of an idea.

Once set on how to use the burlap, I grabbed some white paint.   Now I am no picaso with a paint brush, but easy, basic patterns work for me.

It was between EASTER or SPRING.  I landed on SPRING because it could stay up on our door longer that way. To help measure the length of the burlap, I used chalk to mark while I measured across the wreath. Then since I am terrible at free handing anything, I wrote the letters I wanted to paint above the burlap on the paper towel I was using to soak up the excess paint.

Next, I knew I wanted to use the gerber daisies I bought from the non-clearance sale at Michael’s. I started by laying everything on the wreath and decided I liked the banner at an angle and that the flowers were only needed around a portion. Too many flowers would have made the wreath look too gaudy.

Once I had everything placed I broke out the glue gun and started attaching.  I go a tad bit crazy with a glue gun in hand. It might be my favorite craft tool of them all.  Except when I burn myself with the glue, which happens very frequently….

TaDA! FINAL PRODUCT!

Looks pretty great walking down the hall to our condo too!!

How are you trying to survive the Spring Blues?

I love that wreath. If you ever saw my house that isnt even near a beach you would think it was. my eitrne house is beach themed and this is exactly the icing to the cake to top off the color scheme and look for the front of the house. Would love to win it!

This is a great idea! I have some extra burlap from a proejct gone wrong last year, and I just might have to frame some up with printed words for our kitchen!
