Day 1 down, and 20 more to go with the 21 Day Fix®!
As I mentioned I have recently started my journey with Beachbody®. I am recommitting myself to my health/fitness/nutrition. With that commitment, I have started a new program called the 21 Day Fix®. “The Fix” -as I personally like to call it- is a 21 day program that not only offers you 21 days straight of workouts with a highly motivating instructor, but it also offers a portion control system, to keep you on track with your nutrition goals!
Here is where I am going to get brutally honest with you. ::Deep Breath::
I have set some pretty hefty goals for myself, and the top of the list is to lose 50 lbs! Good lord that was hard to say out loud?! Because instantly I assume everyone’s mind is trying to do the math on my current weight. Please leave that be, just know, I know my weight, and based on my height what my weight should be, this is a solid/healthy goal for me. I also know that muscle weights more than fat. Gross visualization isn’t it? Or is it motivating?? You tell me!

HOWEVER, if I can gain a lot of that lean muscle that weighs more, and I look good, I would also be happy not hitting my goal weight. I could settle for fitting into the pile of size 4 or 6 pants still hiding in the back of my closet hoping to be worn again some day.
Now that you know my ultimate goal, I can share how it has been going.
Monday was Day 1 doing the 21 Day Fix® workout and portion control eating plan. Along with drinking Shakeology®.
I received my Beachbody® box in the mail on Thursday the week prior and read the meal plan information from cover to cover with in 30 mins of opening the box. I instantly calculated by calorie range to understand the number of containers I could eat in one day. For my weight, and to be at a calorie deficit to lose weight, I am allowed:
- 4 Green- Veggies
- 3 Purple- Fruit
- 4 Red- Protein
- 3 Yellow- Grains/Carbs
- 1 Blue- Good Fats
- 1 Orange- Dressings/Seeds
- 4 Teaspoons- Oils/Nut Butters
I walked away saying “this is doable!”
Sunday was shopping day at Costco- you all remember how I love to shop in bulk– to get my fridge filled with some healthy veggies and fresh fruits. As well as throw out temptations/old stuff.
Monday was all about sticking to my plan. Here is a run down of what I ate and when I worked out:
- Breakfast: chocolate Shakeology® w/ frozen strawberries= 1 red & 1 purple container
- AM Snack: (12) almonds = 1 blue container
- Lunch: 2 slices of whole grain toast topped with 2 runny eggs and wilted spinach = 2 yellow, 1 red, 1 teaspoon & 1 green container
- PM Snack: apple sauce & roasted broccoli= 1 purple, 1 teaspoon & 1 green container
- Dinner: grilled chicken with quinoa mixed with mushrooms and spinach = 1 red, 1 green, 2 teaspoons & 1 yellow container
- Workout 8pm: Total Body Cardio Fix
- PM Snack: Greek Yogurt = 1 red container
- Total Water for the day = 50 oz
If you were paying close attention, you will see no orange containers, and 1 missing green container on my list. After getting through the first day, I realized it was going to be even harder than I thought to be as balanced as the program wanted your nutrition to be for the day. Missing the orange wasn’t a big deal for me, but the green reminded me I needed to plan a little better to get those veggies in during the day!
How was I feeling after day 1? Pretty motivated! I made it though my first workout with minor soreness the next morning. I really enjoyed the circuit type workout. Something new every 30-60 seconds, with a few seconds of rest time between was right up my alley! And I followed the meal plans without going crazy outside of the perimeters= total score for me! I am really enjoying the container counting system vs. counting calories, so much less math. Although the program comes with a tally sheet, and free online additional sheets, I created my own excel document to track not only the number of containers but the foods I am eating. I have found this helpful in being able to not only see that I followed the plan, but can see at a total level what I ate.
There you have it, Day 1 is in the record books! Look for more weekly recaps from me over the next 3 weeks. I can’t wait to share how it goes!
Check it out: Autumn and I are pals now, we even take selfies together 🙂 {please disregard the sweaty mess I look like, and how fantastic she looks after a workout}
